2013 WALDA Landscape Design Conference - The Art of Landscape Design


WALDA proudly presented the first Landscape Design Conference in WA. The conference was extremely successful and attracted a large number of attendees. The feedback was great and has really put WALDA on the map in terms of professionalism and national design exposure. The keynote speakers included exceptional landscape designers, both locally and interstate. Speakers explored the delicate balance between art and science, form and function and how good landscape design can deliver cool, inviting and liveable spaces in the most challenging urban environments.

Keynote speakers were;

Kate Cullity

An internationally recognised, multi award winning and highly acclaimed landscape architect and environmental artist.

Andrew Laidlaw

Landscape architect at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Is well known for his plant knowledge, mastery of design and his unique, innovative approach.

Steven Wells

Australian Gardener of the Year 2012. Has a passion for connecting people and plants and has been recognised for his exceptional horticultural therapy programs.

Greg Grabasch

Principal of UDLA. Greg will explore how landscape design is influenced by contemporary trends with regard to social engagement and communication.

Matthew Lunn

Trained and qualified at the Royal Horticultural Society UK, Matthew has designed gardens for over 25 years. He has a particular interest in urban landscape design and sustainable gardening in mediterranean climates.

Janine Mendel

Highly awarded landscape designer who has been working in the industry for 25 years. Janine has designed more than 1000 residential landscapes from tiny contemporary courtyards to large formal estates.

Eiji Morozumi

Perth's leading proponent of the ancient art of Japanese garden design. He has been named the LIAWA Awards of Excellence Overall Winner three times. In 2010, Fiji was awarded Sustainable Landscape of the Year.

Blake Willis

A Multi award winning landscape architect who has worked nationally and internationally in many capacities ranging from broad scale landscape planning to landscape design projects at various scales. He is forging a reputation as one of the State's leading landscape architects.

Lorna Barnett and Cathy Cocks

Directors of Haughty Culture, an award winning Perth based business specialising in finding smart solutions to garden design challenges. Lorna and Cathy have written garden style and design columns for Western Australian media for the past 15 years.
